The British use this word when they are no longer needed for a job and then get laid off or “sacked.” But I’m feeling it this year as a volunteer position begins to come to a close.
I recognized today at a strategic planning event for an organization that in a lot of ways I represent the past and not the future of the organization. Yet, as the past president, with history and experience, I do have some important things to contribute.
I was absolutely delighted today when I could use the word “magical” in a strategic goal. While my redundancy hurts a little, it’s freeing.
I’m free to mentor others, keep some promises to colleagues and friends for meeting more often, and to help develop and grow the organization from a different perspective.
I’ll likely find myself redundant again. Here’s hoping that when one door closes and other opens. ❤
