Sometimes you have to take time for you.

Yet, to write this blog and the ones for tomorrow and Thursday, we had to connect to an internet service package. I’m not going to lie. It’s been tempting to read everything on Facebook. Get caught up in the latest life-sucking political brouhaha. Try to understand the latest hope-draining mass shooting. And check in on LinkedIn.

As a I sat out on the balcony of our room and stared into the deep, deep blue of the Gulf of Mexico, I felt like I needed to cast those things off into the deepness and breathe more deeply.

Create for me a pure heart, O God!
Renew a resolute spirit within me!
Do not reject me!
Do not take your Holy Spirit away from me!
Let me again experience the joy of your deliverance!
Sustain me by giving me the desire to obey!

Psalm 51:10-12, NeT

It’s easy to get caught up in all the horrendous, awful things in the world. Easy to start to think that your job cannot do without you. (Let me let you in on a secret, they can. Even if they say they can’t, they absolutely can.) Even the average, day-to-day chores can wait for a while.

In order to allow The Lord to create a pure heart in me, to quicken a resolute spirit, I have to make time for renewal, learn something new, reset my internal and external self.

There’s a big, wide, spectacular world out here. God’s creating a new sunset just for me, and anyone else who takes the time to bear witness to it, to see His glory. It’s deep and wide and blue and perfect and stretches from horizon to horizon.

He alone can remind me that there is joy in my own deliverance. In joy, He can help me remind me of yours. And, almost more miraculous than that He sustains me by giving me the desire to share Him with others. ❤
