{Re}sign

One meaning of resign is to give oneself over without resistance.

I think I learned about resignation from my mother-in-law. Over and over again terrible things would happen, and she would say only, “Oh, well …” Shrugg her shoulders. She’d change the subject or continue the same behavior she was doing without batting an eyelash. Like she had no choice but to give herself over to whatever came without resistance.

I remember being gobsmacked by this behavior. How can she resign herself to this without trying something? Doing something?

I guess life had smacked her around enough that resignation was easier than trying something and failing.

Yet, I wish she had not grown weary.

So we must not grow weary in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who belong to the family of faith.

Galatians 6:9-10

Don’t give up, the good things are there too. Hidden beneath the surface is joy unspeakable. We just have to hang on. ❤
