{Re} the prefix

When I first started exploring the prefix {re} I did a lot of online searching.

One of the first searches I did revealed that my beloved prefix could have a dark side and explored all the senses of the word. The Grammarphobia Blog said that {re} actually has several senses:

{Re} could mean:

  1. Back to a certain point
  2. Back to the original position
  3. Again or renew
  4. An undoing of a previous action
  5. Back in to place

Yet, what’s so fascinating to me is that the prefix actually changes things. Two letters. Changes things and gives them new meaning.

According to the blog post, the Oxford English Dictionary says that the prefix has been around since the 1200s. A lot can change in 800 years. ❤
