The worship song Reckless Love was going through my mind today.
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Reckless Love by Cory Asbury
Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God, yeah
I started thinking, is there an again in reckless?
Then, the word nerd in me had “The Princess Bride” moment: “You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means,” Inigo Montoya.“
Reckless means marked by lack of proper caution or careless of consequences or irresponsible. God’s love is reckless?
God’s love is relentless. Relentless means promising or showing no abatement of severity, intensity, strength, or pace. And, it’s biblical!
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39
Now that’s relentless. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. I want that relentless love of God.
God took full responsibility. He knew the consequences. It would cost His Only Son his life. It would yield redemption.
If you hear me singing, “Oh the overwhelming, never-ending, relentless love of God,” in church on Sunday, don’t be surprised. ❤
