{Re}fugium

This is a complicated again word that spoke to me this morning. Apparently it was Dictionary.com‘s word of the day recently. I had to look it up.

Refugium means “an area where special environmental circumstances have enabled a species or a community of species to survive after extinction in surrounding areas.”

Biologically speaking it’s a safe haven, so to speak, for species that are going to extinction, like the mountain gorillas in Africa. These gorillas live in an isolated mountain range that specifically supports them.

In a fish tank or fishery, the refugium exists to help feed the fish with the same water supply and there are several YouTube videos that show you how to create these spaces.

Refugium is basically the Latin of refuge.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
The righteous run to it and are safe.

Proverbs 18:10, New King James VErsion

I love this song, but I didn’t know it was written by the late, great Whitney Houston until I looked it up tonight. Enjoy a little old school gospel with me. ❤
