Requiescat is Latin for a prayer said for the dead. It is usually said: Requiescat in pace. The phrase means rest in peace.
We say it again and again. Rest in peace.
When I was little, Memorial Day meant long trips to off-the-beaten-path cemeteries to place flowers on the graves of our family dead. We’d tell stories and share memories. I even remember being crammed in the car with granny, gramps, grandmother, grandfather, mom, dad, and my little brother.
I’m grateful for Memorial Day. For those who have protected our country with the ultimate sacrifice. I think of the passengers on Flight 93 on 9/11. The police gunned down in Dallas. Ultimate sacrifices.
I pray they rest in peace. ❤
