The Shema is an important part of Jewish liturgy. Maybe the most important part.

When Jesus is asked what’s the most important commandment in Matthew, he doesn’t respond with the Big 10. He responds with something familiar and replies with the Shema.

Love The Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Deuteronomy 6:5

Jesus the Christ, responded with words the Pharisees could understand. And, He continued. “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Another reference to what they knew and understood from Leviticus 19:18.

I feel like these words challenge me. Beg of me to recommit.

Especially with trying neighbors.Crazy drivers. Difficult colleagues. Humanity.

I find myself in need of constant recommitting.

I wonder if that’s because I don’t love God enough or whether it’s because I’m not receiving God’s love enough?

It’s a one-day at a time kind of deal. ❤
