{Re}st

Honestly, today I’m still struggling with what rest is all about. I’ve started this post several times, and then hit backspace until all my words disappeared.

Last year, our associate pastor, Edgar Bazaan, preached a sermon on rest. I took copious notes and even went back and listened to it today. There’s so much to make sense of here.

Rest as a blessing.

Rest as a reward.

Rest as trust.

Rest as submission to God’s Lordship.

Rest as God’s best.

And, while Edgar didn’t share all the following ideas, I would like to examine these closer:

Rest as the law.

Rest as smelling God’s presence.

Rest as faith.

Rest as hope.

I’ve read books on Sabbath. There is a four-week study on rest that I’m hoping to explore. I’m looking to learn more about my Jewish friends practice Sabbath. Next week, we’ll start with one of these and work our way through them.

Until then, give Edgar’s sermon a listen. Perhaps, like me, his words will make you curious about rest, too.
