My friend Pat often quips, “That’s a mercy.”
Sometimes it’s funny. Sometimes it’s serious. And, sometimes it takes me a minute to figure out which mercy she actually means.
Every time it’s refreshing.
The mercies of the Lord show up in unexpected places, and Pat reminds me to look for them. Sure enough, mercy shows up. New every morning.
Mercy shows up when a friend unexpectedly confesses that she’s praying for your grandmother. That this woman she’s never met is being placed on her heart for prayer.
Mercy shows up in gentle reminders that spring brings new flowers. That storms have rainbows.
Sometimes they’re hard to find or they’re not readily identifiable.
It’s in those moments you have to trust in the ultimate goodness of the Lord.
And, I wonder what do I know of mercy?
