Grace for Me

Poem 2, August 9, 2023

This poem is a quatrain or four-line stanza followed by a tercet or three-line stanza. It doesn’t rhyme. I am having trouble trying to define this one and cannot really do it. I can tell what it’s not: ode, elegy, free verse, sonnet, limerick. Let’s just say it a smash up of quatrain and tercet.

Yes the tears flow.
I lift my right hand.
Grab hold of my shirt collar.
Nod.

I can give myself grace.
I can forgive me.
I can authentically love myself.

I double-down when wrong.
I am deeply flawed.
Sometimes downright dumb.
Human.

I can give myself grace.
I can forgive me.
I can authentically love myself.

In a fit of temper act on impulse.
React first and think later.
Often be unfeeling.
Mean.

I can give myself grace.
I can forgive me.
I can authentically love myself.
